Police have recovered the body of Anna Rani (38), a female member of the village police, from the bank of a pond in Salanga, Sirajganj, on Saturday morning.

The body was found under a gourd tree beside the Salanga Islamia Bahumukhi High School grounds, said Sub-Inspector Brajeshwar Barman of Salanga Police Station. Anna Rani was the wife of the late Bijan Chandra Das of Salanga Rishi Para and worked as a village police officer at Salanga Union Parishad.

According to police, locals discovered the body early in the morning and alerted authorities. The victim had injury marks on her neck, leading investigators to suspect she was killed and her body dumped near the pond.

“The cause of death is being investigated,” said SI Brajeshwar, adding that the body was sent to Sirajganj Shaheed M. Mansur Ali Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Family members are preparing to file a murder case.
