On September 26, 2025, the body of a six-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted and strangled to death was discovered in a septic tank in Shariatpur’s Bhedarganj upazila, according to the post-mortem report. The child reportedly had a horizontal injury on the front of her neck and bruises on her arms and inner thighs. Her reproductive organs were lacerated, and she had bitten her own tongue, the report states.

The child was a nursery student named Taiba and the daughter of Titu Sardar from Chhoyalkandi village in Bhedarganj. She attended a local madrasa.

Taiba went missing around 5 pm on Wednesday. The child’s father filed a case with Sakhipur Police Station after she could not be found despite thorough searches. Since then, on September 28, four people including the child’s aunt, Ayesha Begum, were arrested. The other arrestees were Asif Bepari, Shahnaz Begum, and Nasima Begum. Ayesha gave a confessional statement to the Chief Judicial Magistrate on the same day. Police requested seven-day remands for the aunt and Asif each, but the court granted three days. Shahnaz was later arrested following information obtained during interrogation.

The aunt reportedly killed the child due to a long-standing family feud and disposed of the body in the septic tank to conceal the crime. Neither The Daily Star nor BD News 24 provided any details about her sexual assault or the perpetrator.

Shariatpur Sadar Hospital Resident Medical Officer Dr. Mitu Akhtar, Medical Officer Dr. Linia Sadina, and Dr. Amit Sengupta signed the post-mortem report, indicating the sexual assault was homicidal. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Habibur Rahman and Additional Superintendent of Police Saumya Shekhar confirmed and reaffirmed this information to The Daily Star.
