The Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) fact-checking and media research team BanglaFact has confirmed that an image circulating on social media showing the Bangladesh women’s cricket team playing in burqas is fake and created using artificial intelligence (AI).
Following Bangladesh’s 100-run loss to New Zealand in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 on October 10, the manipulated image began circulating online, claiming that the players had appeared on the field wearing burqas.
BanglaFact’s investigation found that the photo was produced using Google’s AI image generation tool ‘Jimini’. Verification against official footage on the ICC’s Facebook page showed that the players were wearing standard team jerseys, not burqas.
According to BanglaFact, the claim is completely false and misleading. The organization continues to track and debunk false information circulating on social media, noting a rise in AI-generated and politically motivated disinformation in the past year.
