Khulna University has expelled twelve students and disciplined seven others for offenses including ragging, fighting, insulting religion, and drug use. The decision followed an investigation reviewed at the 27th meeting of the university’s disciplinary board on October 9, confirmed by Director of Student Affairs Professor Nazmus Sadat.
According to the official order, punishments vary from permanent and temporary expulsion to fines and written bonds. Mubarak Hossain Noman (Bangla) was permanently expelled for assaulting a teacher, though the cancellation of his certificate has been conditionally suspended. Hasan Hawlader (Economics) and Aminul Islam (Mass Communication and Journalism) were expelled for drug use and sale, while Russell Sheikh and Tanoy Roy of the same discipline faced expulsion for insulting religion on Facebook.
Several others, including Zahidul Islam (Law), KM Rauful Alam Arnab (Mathematics), and three of his peers, were punished for fighting, ragging, or issuing threats. Additional students from the Education and Business Administration disciplines received temporary suspension or fines.
University officials stated that the measures were taken to maintain a safe academic environment and reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct and activities that violate the institution’s code of conduct.
