A disturbing incident of rape has shaken the Kaliakoir area in Gazipur, Bangladesh. Joy Kumar Das, a young man, has been accused of raping a 13-year-old madrasa girl student after keeping her captive for three days. The victim’s family and the accused were living in a rented house in the Mouchak area of Kaliakoir, where Joy allegedly formed a relationship with the student.
According to reports, the student went missing on Saturday, prompting her family to file a general diary (GD) with the local police station. Three days later, neighbors found her unconscious in the Mouchak station area and took her to a nearby rented house. After regaining consciousness, the student revealed that Joy’s sister-in-law, Sanjit, and uncle, Loknath, had picked her up from near her house and handed her over to Joy, who then locked her up in a house and raped her.
The incident sparked widespread outrage, with locals taking to the streets to demand maximum punishment for the accused. Two separate protest processions were held after Friday prayers, with protesters demanding justice for the victim.
Kaliakair Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Mannan confirmed that two people, including the accused Joy Kumar Das and his maternal uncle Loknath, have been arrested and sent to Gazipur Jail. Efforts are underway to arrest the other accused involved in the incident
