A woman named Tamanna Hatun has publicly accused Mufti Mamunur Rashid Qasemi, the founder of the Sharia-based matchmaking platform Ideal Marriage Bureau, of exploiting women through temporary “contact marriages.” The allegations were shared on Facebook on Thursday, where Tamanna identified herself as Qasemi’s third wife and detailed claims of manipulation, verbal divorce, and forced abortion.
In her post, Tamanna alleged that Ideal Marriage Bureau arranges short-term marriages for women—often lasting one to two months—with wealthy men under the guise of religiously sanctioned unions. She claimed that after disagreements or demands for accountability, these women are discarded, with Qasemi and his associates justifying the separations as disputes with “argumentative wives.”
Tamanna further stated that she had lived with Qasemi for a year after paying Tk 10,000 for the marriage. Following a verbal divorce, she said Qasemi continued physical relations with her, resulting in a pregnancy. She alleged that she was later forced to take medicine to terminate the pregnancy and was expelled from his home. According to her account, Qasemi subsequently married a 13-year-old girl in Kushtia earlier this month.
Tamanna said she filed a case against Qasemi on October 14, 2025, and expressed concern for her safety, claiming that her family had been threatened for speaking out. She urged authorities to take action, warning that such abuses would continue if unaddressed.
The Ideal Marriage Bureau or Qasemi have not yet issued an official statement regarding the allegations. The incident follows recent controversy involving another religious speaker, Taha Mohammad Adnan, who was accused of abuse by his second wife, drawing renewed public attention to gendered exploitation within religious institutions.
