A young man named Mansur Mia (35) was brutally beaten and had his head shaved in Unkot village of Shuvopur union, Chauddagram upazila of Comilla, over allegations of an “immoral relationship.” A video of the assault, recorded on Wednesday evening, went viral on social media the following day, sparking outrage.

In the footage, several men are seen hitting Mansur with sticks, throwing him onto a bed, and kicking him as a woman screams nearby, holding a baby. Despite repeated pleas for mercy, the assault continues. Local residents claimed Mansur was caught visiting the home of an expatriate’s wife, leading to the violent attack. Following the incident, the expatriate reportedly joined a video call, verbally divorced his wife, and returned to Bangladesh the next day.

Mansur, a carpenter by profession, has denied the accusations and alleged a planned conspiracy. He stated that he had gone to the house only to collect pending payment for carpentry work when a group of locals, led by two men named Nasir and Sajeeb, detained and tortured him. “They beat me, shaved my head, and later released me after extorting 30,000 taka,” Mansur said. His father, Hafez Ahmed, demanded justice, claiming his son was framed and tortured without cause.

The incident follows another recent case in the same upazila, where an expatriate’s wife was publicly beaten by a local UP member over similar allegations. The video of that assault also went viral earlier in the week, drawing widespread criticism.

Chauddagram Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Hilal Uddin Ahmed said the viral video has come to the attention of police. “The victim has not filed a formal complaint, but we are working to identify and arrest those involved,” he said.
