NCP leader Amin Hossain Saikat has been arrested in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur in a case filed under the Prevention of Violence Against Women and Children Act. Joint forces detained him in his home area on Wednesday evening (October 29), confirmed Faridganj Police Station OC Md. Shah Alam.
According to local sources, Saikat had been in a romantic relationship with a woman from Rahima Nagar in Kachua upazila. Discussions had reportedly begun between the two families regarding marriage. However, after Saikat’s family learned that the woman had previously been married and had a child, they refused to proceed with the marriage. Following this, Saikat allegedly cut off contact.
The woman later went to Saikat’s residence and stayed there when communication ceased. Although conversations reportedly took place between both families, the situation escalated, and the woman filed a case in Chandpur court accusing Saikat of attempted rape.
Based on the court warrant (Case No. 347/2025), joint forces carried out the arrest from the Chandpur court premises area.
Police have stated that Saikat will be produced before the court as part of the ongoing legal process. The case remains under investigation.
