A leaked audio clip of Professor Dr. Nasir Uddin Mizhi of the Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia has triggered widespread anger after he made derogatory remarks about female students’ clothing and participation in protests. Dr. Mizhi, the chair of the Al-Quran and Islamic Studies Department and a member of the pro-Jamaat teachers’ panel Green Forum, was heard mocking female students who had joined demonstrations demanding justice for the murder of student Sajid Abdullah.

In the 4-minute audio, which spread across Facebook Tuesday night, the teacher described protesting women as “naked” and “animals” simply for wearing jeans and shirts. Students responded with swift and strong backlash, calling the comments deeply misogynistic and an attempt to shame women for participating in civic activism.

Following the outrage, Dr. Mizhi issued an unconditional apology on Wednesday morning, calling the comments a “slip of the tongue.” But students rejected the apology, stating that sexism cloaked in religious authority is not a mistake — it is a pattern. At 11 a.m., they formed a human chain on campus and submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor with five demands, including Dr. Mizhi’s dismissal and action against those who threaten or intimidate protestors.

Their demands also include the immediate arrest of Sajid’s killers, protection of students’ right to protest, and the formation of an investigation committee within 72 hours to review administrative interference in student movements.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naqib Mohammad Nasrullah stated that no teacher should make such remarks and that the administration will act if a formal complaint is submitted. The situation remains under watch, with students asserting they will not back down until accountability is ensured.
