In Benapole, students of Navaran Burujbagan Secondary School in Sharsha Upazila held a human chain and blocked the Jessore–Benapole highway on Wednesday, demanding action against Assistant Headmaster Abdul Alim, who has been accused of molesting a female student. The demonstration began around 12 pm, with hundreds of students joining the hour-long protest.
A written complaint had been filed earlier alleging that the teacher harassed a girl in the school. Following the allegation, the school management committee temporarily suspended him. However, when he recently returned to the school without any formal resolution of the case, students expressed outrage, calling the reinstatement unacceptable.
During the protest, students held placards and chanted, “A teacher is supposed to be a guardian. This behavior is shameful. We demand his permanent removal and legal punishment.” They emphasized that allowing him back into the school sends a message that harassment can be ignored or minimized.
Sharsha Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Alim arrived at the scene and spoke with the students. After discussion, the students agreed to withdraw the road blockade peacefully.
The students have stated they will continue to demand accountability and ensure that the accused is permanently removed from the institution, rather than quietly reinstated
