A video circulating on social media has sparked widespread discussion after showing a young woman confronting harassment on a local bus in Dhaka. The incident reportedly took place when a man made an offensive comment about the woman’s clothing as she boarded the bus. The woman, wearing jeans and a top, immediately challenged him, asking why he was commenting on her dress.

In response, the man stood up and slapped her. The woman then removed her shoe and began striking him in return. The situation quickly escalated, with the man pushing her toward the front of the bus, while other passengers eventually intervened. The video captures the tense moments, highlighting both the harassment and the woman’s self-defense in the face of public humiliation.

After the footage went viral, many praised the young woman for defending herself, arguing that women in Bangladesh regularly face unsolicited moral policing and verbal abuse in public transport. Supporters noted that her response reflects the growing frustration of women who are routinely made to feel unsafe in public spaces.

Others, however, debated the escalation of the altercation, while still acknowledging that harassment remains widespread and often goes unchallenged. The incident has reignited conversations on the urgent need for safer public transportation, accountability for harassment, and the right of women to move freely without fear of judgment or violence.
