RAB-4 has arrested Md. Nizam Uddin (45), a helper of Ramzan Paribahan, on charges of sexually harassing and physically assaulting a female passenger on a public bus in the Bashila area of Mohammadpur. He was detained on Thursday evening (October 30), and the arrest was announced during a press briefing by RAB-4 Commander Lt. Col. Md. Mahbub Alam on Friday.

According to RAB, the incident occurred on October 27 when a female student was traveling from Dhanmondi-15 to Bashila on a Ramzan Paribahan bus. When the bus reached the Bashila Metro Housing area, the helper allegedly made obscene remarks about her clothing. When the student protested, he physically assaulted her. In self-defense, the woman struck him with her shoe.

The incident drew widespread attention and public discussion after video and witness accounts spread across social media. Following this, a RAB team conducted an investigation, used technical surveillance to locate the accused, and arrested him.

The woman has since filed a case at Mohammadpur Police Station. RAB officials confirmed that the arrested helper has been handed over to the police for further legal action.

The case highlights once again the routine harassment women face on public transportation and the urgent need for enforceable safety protocols and accountability in transit systems.
