We are honored to present Episode 17 of the Bangladesh Feminist Oral History Project, an initiative of the Bangladesh Feminist Archives dedicated to documenting the voices, struggles, and legacies of Bangladeshi feminists across generations.

In this episode, we speak with Myat Moe Khaing, an Indigenous feminist researcher, storyteller, and rights advocate from the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Myat’s work illuminates the lived realities of urban Indigenous women navigating Dhaka city—mapping how gender, migration, labor, safety, and belonging intersect in complex and intimate ways.

Her journey moves across community life in the Hill Tracts, university and professional life in Dhaka, seven years in the corporate sector, and now her transition to Social Work in Australia—a shift grounded in values of collective care, healing, and cultural continuity. Myat has also contributed to Indigenous language and storytelling initiatives, including translating The Legend of Boga Lake and developing mother-tongue children’s learning materials.

Through story, reflection, and memory, Myat offers a powerful conversation on identity, movement, home, and choosing a life that aligns with one’s values.

Topics Discussed:
-Growing up in the Chittagong Hill Tracts
-Indigenous identity and belonging in Dhaka city
-Urban Indigenous women’s everyday negotiations and resilience
-Leaving corporate life and pursuing Social Work
-Storytelling, language, and cultural continuity
-Home, memory, and choosing alignment
