Police have recovered the body of a young housewife, Deepti Mondal (20), from her in-laws’ home in the Badamtala Mondal Bari area of Madaripur town on Saturday afternoon. Deepti was married to Tapas Mondal, a clerk at the Madaripur court.
Deepti’s family members allege that she had been subjected to ongoing physical and emotional abuse by her husband and in-laws since the marriage. They claim that after a fresh round of violence on Saturday, Deepti was killed and then hanged to make it appear as suicide.
Police from Madaripur Sadar Model Station recovered the body and sent it to Madaripur Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge of the station stated that an investigation is underway to determine whether the death was a suicide or homicide. He said police will take legal action if Deepti’s family files a formal complaint.
