BNP Announces 237 Candidates, Only 10 of Them Women

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced 237 candidates for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election. Among the nominated candidates, only 10 are women. The announcement was made by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press conference held at the party chairperson’s political office in Gulshan on Monday.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is included on the list of nominated women candidates. The other women nominated are Tahsina Rushdir (Sylhet-2), Shama Obaid Islam (Faridpur-2), Nayab Yusuf Ahmed (Faridpur-3), Afroza Khan Rita (Manikganj-3), Sansila Zebrin (Sherpur-1), Israt Sultana Elen Bhutto (Jhalokati-2), Sabira Sultana (Jessore-2), Sanjida Islam (Dhaka-14) and Farzana Sharmin (Natore-1).

The interim government has announced that the 13th national election will take place in the first half of February. With this announcement of candidates, BNP has formally begun its electoral process for the upcoming polls.

Further announcements regarding campaign activities and election preparations are expected to follow as the election schedule approaches.
