Police have recovered the body of Suravi Akhter Mahfuza (21) from a house in the Bakshibagh area of Malibagh, Dhaka, on Monday afternoon. The body was found wrapped in a sack inside the home where she lived with her husband, Ashiqur Rahman Molla, who has been missing since the incident.
According to Shahjahanpur Police Station, Suravi and Ashiqur had met while working at a tailoring shop and later married. They were living on the ground floor of house 493/A in the Bakshibagh mosque area. Local residents alerted the police after noticing a foul smell coming from the house.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for post-mortem examination. Law enforcement officials stated that Ashiqur is currently being traced, and preparations are underway to file a case.
Suravi’s family, who traveled from Joynagar village in Jajira, Shariatpur, said the couple had a four-year-old son. They also reported that there had been previous incidents of violence in the marriage.
The investigation is ongoing.
