Women leaders have called for 150 of the 300 parliamentary seats to be allocated to women in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election. The demand was raised in a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Building in Agargaon on Wednesday.

Following the meeting, Nasrin Fatema Awal, President of Women Entrepreneurs of Bangladesh, stated that women candidates require institutional support to contest elections on equal footing. She noted that access to funding and political backing remains limited for many women, creating barriers to participation.

The representatives emphasized that political parties generally nominate a small percentage of women candidates, and called for clear commitments to increase women’s representation. They also requested measures to ensure that women can campaign and vote safely and comfortably.

The leaders urged the Election Commission and the government to take steps that would enable greater participation of women as candidates in the national election.
