A court in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, has convicted Firoz Ahmed, the headmaster of a girls’ school in Natore, in a case related to the kidnapping and rape of a 10th-grade student. Ahmed was sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape, while a teacher involved in the case received 14 years for kidnapping.
According to reports, Ahmed abducted the student from the school premises on October 1, 2022, under the pretext of giving her higher marks. He then took her to a relative’s house in Rajshahi and raped her. The girl was found the next day in Gurudaspur Upazila of Natore.
The victim’s mother had filed a case against Ahmed and three others under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. The police investigated and filed a charge sheet against Ahmed and two others, but two were later acquitted. The case was then transferred to the Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal for a speedy trial.
The tribunal judge, Mohd. Mohiduzzaman, announced the verdict, and Ahmed was taken to Rajshahi Central Jail. The state’s lawyer expressed satisfaction with the verdict, saying justice had been established. Ahmed, however, reacted angrily, claiming the case was not right and he did not receive justice.
