A woman named Fahima Begum (35) and her mother-in-law Momena Begum were arrested by RAB from Hastabasantapur Mohalla in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat on Tuesday. Fahima was carrying her three-month-and-five-day-old child at the time of arrest.
According to RAB, the arrest took place based on a secret tip-off, and 792 ampoules of injectable narcotics were seized from the two women. A drug case was later filed at Akkelpur Police Station, after which they were handed over to police custody.
Police stated that the two women are accused of collecting drugs from border areas and selling them in various parts of the district. Both were produced in court and sent to jail on Wednesday, with the infant remaining in the mother’s care during the process.
Authorities confirmed that the case is under investigation.
