A woman head teacher in Haluaghat, Mymensingh has accused Sajjad Hossain Khan Hira, joint convener of the Upazila BNP, of physically assaulting her during a meeting over a land-related dispute. The complaint was made by Rehana Parveen, head teacher of Purbadhara Government Primary School, at a press conference at the Haluaghat Press Club on Monday (18 November).

According to Rehana Parveen, Hira called her to the area behind the Upazila Women’s Market to discuss issues involving a 3.5-decimal plot of land that she said was purchased from Hira’s younger brother, Ifranul Bari Khan Palash, in 2019. She stated that Tk 8 lakh had been paid in advance, but she later learned that the land was mortgaged with Uttara Bank. Rehana alleged that when she raised this matter, Hira became agitated, behaved indecently with her, pulled her by the hair, and kicked her in the lower abdomen, causing her to fall and sustain injuries. She was later treated at the Haluaghat Upazila Health Complex.

Following the incident, Rehana submitted written complaints to the Upazila Executive Officer, the Upazila Education Officer, and Haluaghat Police Station. She appealed for a fair investigation and sought protection, noting concerns for her safety.

Attempts to reach the accused, Sajjad Hossain Khan Hira, were unsuccessful, as he could not be contacted for comment.
