Zahid filed the case in 2020, stating that he married Nusrat on 10 November 2017 with a denmohor of Tk 1 lakh. He alleged that Nusrat was presented as unmarried at the time of the marriage. In 2018, she allegedly demanded Tk 3 lakh to send her brother abroad, and further dowry was sought during a domestic arbitration in March 2020. Zahid said he later learned that Nusrat had kept her previous marriage undisclosed.

A third accused, Md. Aminul Islam, was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
