A woman in Nazirpur, Pirojpur has accused a group of five men—including local influential figure Helal Sikder—of torturing her, recording a video, and demanding extortion. The incident took place in Mitharkul village of Malikhali Union No. 2. A video of the assault recently went viral on social media.
The footage shows the woman and a man being stripped naked, tied up, and brutalized, with the attackers placing their feet on their chests as they screamed for help. On Thursday night (November 27), Tutul Sikder (32), the victim’s brother-in-law’s son, filed a written complaint at Nazirpur Police Station, naming five accused: Helal Sikder (35), Milan Sikder (38), Delwar alias Delal Sikder (30), Nannu Sikder (34), and Mamun Sikder (27)—all residents of Mitharkul village.
According to the complaint, on August 6, the accused entered the victim’s house while her husband was away, tied the two victims up, stripped them, beat them, and recorded the assault. They allegedly demanded Tk 10 lakh, threatening to release the video. When the victims couldn’t pay, the accused reportedly took Tk 2 lakh worth of gold and Tk 20,000 in cash, warning that the video would be made public if the remaining amount was not paid within two days.
The complaint states that when the victims failed to provide the rest of the money, the attackers spread the video, causing severe harm to the woman’s reputation. Speaking by phone, the woman said the incident was part of a land dispute and that she is now homeless, appealing for safety and justice.
Attempts to reach Helal Sikder were unsuccessful. Nazirpur Police Station OC Mahmud Al Farid Bhuiyan confirmed receiving the written complaint and said legal action is underway.
