A housewife named Rima Khatun (35) was seriously injured after being hacked by assailants who allegedly demanded extortion money in Uttar Noapara village, Hazrapur Union, Magura Sadar. The incident occurred on Saturday morning. Rima is the wife of expatriate Arif Hossain.
According to Rima, Rafiqul Islam, son of the late Muntaj Sikder and general secretary of Awami League Ward No. 4, along with his younger brother Faruk Sikder and son Mithun Sikder, came to her house demanding Tk 5 lakh in ransom. When she could not pay, the three allegedly attacked her with local weapons. Rima said the assailants severed the middle finger of her right hand and seriously injured her left wrist.
