A schoolboy in Panchagarh Sadar Upazila was seriously injured after being beaten and stabbed by a group of teenagers over an argument in a Facebook Messenger group. The attack took place on Monday afternoon in front of the Amarkhana Union sub-health center, adjacent to Amarkhana High School. The victim, 15-year-old Sohan Ali, an eighth-grade student, is currently undergoing treatment at Thakurgaon General Hospital.

According to Sohan’s family and the police case report, the conflict began 10–12 days ago after abuse and arguments erupted in a Messenger group. After completing his annual school exam on Monday, Sohan was surrounded by several teenagers who struck him on the head with an object made from an iron rod and a bicycle freewheel. When the attackers attempted to stab him in the chest, Sohan raised his hand to protect himself, resulting in a deep cut and a severed tendon in his left wrist.

Hearing Sohan’s screams, local residents rushed to rescue him and detained 12 teenagers from different educational institutions, beating them before teachers intervened. The detained teens were locked inside a classroom until police arrived and took them into custody. Later that night, Sohan’s brother filed a case naming 17 accused individuals, including the 12 detained teenagers.

Panchagarh Sadar Police Station confirmed that the accused were arrested and sent to court on Tuesday. Authorities say further action will follow court directives. Sohan’s family says his condition deteriorated during initial treatment and financial constraints prevented transfer to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. They have demanded justice for the violent attack stemming from an online dispute.
