A female worker, Marzia Begum (40), was killed after being hit by a moving trolley inside Roshni Poly Fiber Plastic Factory in Bhunbir Union, Srimangal, on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred around 8 am, leaving the factory premises tense as news spread among workers and locals. Another worker and the trolley driver were also injured and later taken to the Srimangal Upazila Health Complex.
Witnesses said Marzia died on the spot when the trolley suddenly ran over her while she was working. Residents, angered by the incident, vandalized parts of the factory. Local UP member Md. Jasim Ahmed confirmed the victim was from his ward and described the situation as highly volatile.
Marzia’s husband, Akram Ali, demanded justice and compensation for their children, saying, “My children have become orphans. I want appropriate compensation for their future.” Factory officials expressed shock over the incident, stating they had assured the family that compensation would be provided.
Upazila Executive Officer Md. Islam Uddin said he visited the scene with officials from the Army, Police, RAB, and local leaders. He stated that the company has publicly committed to providing maximum compensation according to their policy, and that senior authorities have been informed to take necessary action.
