A court in Brahmanbaria has accepted a case filed by Bipasha Akhter, a two-and-a-half-month pregnant member of the National Citizens Party (NCP), accusing five party leaders of assaulting her at the district office. The Brahmanbaria Senior Judicial Magistrate (Fast Track) Court has directed the Sadar Police Station’s OC to investigate the complaint. The accused include Mohammad Ataullah (34), NCP’s southern region joint chief organizer; Aminul Haque Chowdhury (50); Yakub Ali (42); Shakib Mia (25); and Ratan Mia (42).
According to the case statement, the conflict began after Bipasha, her husband, and several leaders visited the NCP’s Dhaka central office a month earlier and took photos with the party’s chief coordinator. When the photo was shared in the Akhaura NCP group, local leaders became angry. Bipasha alleges that Shakib made derogatory comments about her online, and when she sought help from Ataullah and others, she instead faced harassment. The complaint states that Ataullah even made an “immoral proposal” to her, and when she refused, the accused continued to intimidate and target her.
On November 29, Bipasha and several leaders went to the NCP office at the Pairtala bus stand to file a written complaint. She alleges that the accused became enraged, slapped her, and that Yakub Ali kicked her in the stomach despite knowing she was pregnant. The complaint also states that her gold chain was forcibly taken and that both Bipasha and her husband were threatened with death. Bipasha confirmed to Desh Rupantor that she has filed the case and plans to hold a press conference.
The accused have denied the allegations. Yakub Ali claimed he himself was attacked by people brought to the office and later rescued by police, adding that he has filed a counter-case against Bipasha and her husband. Ataullah also rejected the accusations, calling the case an attempt to humiliate him. Sadar Police Station OC Mohammad Azharul Islam said he has been informed of the matter, though the official documents had not yet reached the station as of Thursday evening.
