A freedom fighter and his wife were found murdered inside their home in Taraganj Upazila of Rangpur on Sunday morning. Police recovered the bodies of 75-year-old Yogesh Chandra Roy, a former headmaster of Chakla Primary School, and his wife 60-year-old Suborna Roy from their house in Khiarpara village of Kursha Rahimapur Union. Both had their throats slit.
According to police and local witnesses, the killings are believed to have taken place late Saturday night. The couple lived alone; their two sons work in the police. Neighbors became concerned when the couple did not respond to knocking early Sunday. A neighbor entered the house by climbing a ladder and found Suborna’s body in the kitchen and Yogesh’s body in the bedroom.
Community members, including the convener of Taraganj Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad, described Yogesh as a respected teacher and freedom fighter. The motive for the murder remains unknown. Police, along with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, have visited the scene and begun an investigation.
The incident has shocked the local area, with residents awaiting clarity on how and why the couple were killed. No arrests or possible leads have been reported so far.
