A Home Ministry investigation is underway against DIG Mohammad Abu Sufian, formerly the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner, after a female police officer filed a complaint alleging that he sent her obscene and offensive videos through Facebook Messenger. Following the complaint, he was removed from his commissioner post and transferred to Police Headquarters without departmental assignment.
According to Home Ministry sources, a charge sheet has been prepared based on the officer’s complaint, and a written response has been sought from Abu Sufian. Investigators said that he sent an obscene video clip to the junior officer on September 18 from his verified Messenger account, and later deleted the messages. A CID forensic report reportedly confirmed that the deleted material originated from his account.
The complaint notes that sending such content to a junior colleague constitutes “extreme unprofessional and immoral conduct,” damaging the reputation of the police force and falling under punishable offenses in the Government Service Rules (2018). Abu Sufian has been instructed to explain within 10 working days why he should not face dismissal or other disciplinary action and to indicate whether he seeks a personal hearing.
While Abu Sufian has denied wrongdoing, claiming the video came from a fake account and that he re-sent it while attempting to verify its source, the female officer maintains she received objectionable messages and videos from him repeatedly and without any professional relationship that would justify such communication. She stated that she reported the matter only after the situation became untenable. The investigation is ongoing.
