The Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities (HRCBM) has stated that violence against minority communities in Bangladesh has reached a severe and alarming level. According to the organization, 90 minority citizens have been killed or found dead under mysterious circumstances since January this year. HRCBM expressed deep concern over the safety and security of minority groups across the country.
The statement was made at a press conference held at the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) in Dhaka on Wednesday morning, marking World Human Rights Day. The information was later reiterated in a press release issued by HRCBM Bangladesh Chapter Convener Lucky Bachar.
Reading from a written statement, Lucky Bachar said the human rights situation in 2025 has been “very worrying,” citing repeated incidents of attacks, arson, mob violence, looting, harassment over alleged religious insults, torture of women, and land grabbing targeting small ethnic groups. He noted that minorities continue to face murder, false cases, and eviction, while perpetrators remain largely unpunished.
HRCBM reported that nine minority individuals were killed within the first nine days of December alone. The organization said it has been operating an emergency monitoring cell to track incidents of violence throughout the year, conducting field-level verification and collecting independent reports.
HRCBM urged authorities to take urgent measures to protect minority communities and ensure accountability for the crimes reported.
