A woman was hacked to death by miscreants after her house was broken into in Lakshmipur early Saturday morning. The incident took place around 3:30 AM in the Matka Mosque area of Ward No. 10 under Lakshmipur municipality. The victim has been identified as Sakina Begum (50).
According to police, several masked assailants entered the house through the roof and went directly to Sakina Begum’s room. When she screamed, the attackers indiscriminately hacked her, leaving her critically injured, and then fled the scene. Family members and neighbours rushed to rescue her and took her to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. She later died on the way to Noakhali General Hospital.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Relatives and local residents said no money or valuables were taken from the house. Some locals, however, believe the attack may have occurred after the victim resisted during a robbery attempt.
Sakina Begum’s husband, Safi Ullah, died about three years ago. Her two children currently live abroad. Lakshmipur Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md Rezaul Haque said police are investigating both the possibility of a pre-planned killing and a robbery-related murder. Preparations are underway to file a case, and operations are continuing to arrest those involved.
