Bangladesh Feminist Archives (BDFA) expresses deep sorrow over the death of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, founding member and spokesperson of Inquilab Mancha, who passed away on 18 December 2025 in Singapore. He succumbed to his injuries after being shot in broad daylight during his election campaign in the Box Culvert area of Bijoynagar, Dhaka. Hadi was preparing to contest the upcoming national election as a Member of Parliament candidate from Dhaka-8, scheduled for 12 February 2026.

Political violence is not new in Bangladesh. However, the events following July 2024 had raised hopes for a democratic shift grounded in participation, accountability, and pluralism. Sharif Osman Bin Hadi was part of that moment of political engagement. While BDFA may not have shared all of his political positions, democracy rests on the right to disagreement without fear of violence. Political pluralism cannot survive where bullets replace debate.

The killing of a political candidate during an election campaign represents a grave threat to democratic processes and public safety. BDFA unequivocally condemns all forms of political violence and urges all political parties to stand united against this pattern, rather than resorting to blame-shifting or partisan silence.

We demand an immediate, transparent, and impartial investigation into this murder and call on the interim authorities to ensure that those responsible are held fully accountable. BDFA extends its condolences to Hadi’s family, relatives, colleagues, and loved ones, and stands in solidarity with them as they confront this devastating loss.

Political participation must never cost a life. Violence cannot be allowed to define Bangladesh’s political future.
