A pregnant housewife was found murdered early Friday morning, December 19, in Rajbari Sadar Upazila, police said. The victim, Suraiya Akter (20), was killed by having her throat slit with a sharp weapon in Dhuldi Joypur village of Shahid Wahabpur Union.
Suraiya Akter was the wife of Rezaul Islam of the same village. Her body was recovered from a straw shed near the family home later that morning and sent to the morgue of Rajbari Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
According to her brother-in-law Md. Mizanur Rahman, Suraiya woke up on Friday morning and offered Fajr prayers with her mother. After her mother left for a walk, Suraiya stayed behind to sweep the yard. When her mother returned and could not find her, the family searched and later discovered her blood-covered body in the straw shed.
Rajbari Police Station OC Khandaker Ziaur Rahman said police arrived at the scene after receiving the report on Friday, recovered the body, and sent it for autopsy. He added that the cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem, and that no case had been filed as of Friday evening.
