The burial of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, convener of the Inqilab Manch and a leading figure of the July mass uprising, was completed around 4:00 pm on Saturday, December 20, in Dhaka. He was laid to rest beside the mausoleum of Kazi Nazrul Islam, next to the Dhaka University Central Mosque.
The ambulance carrying Hadi’s body arrived at the burial site at 3:02 pm, and the burial took place around 3:20 pm. After the burial, prayers were led by his elder brother, Abu Bakar Siddique. Earlier in the afternoon, Hadi’s funeral prayer was held at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building, where hundreds of thousands of people gathered. The funeral prayer was also led by Abu Bakar Siddique.
Hadi was shot in the head on December 12, the day after the announcement of the schedule for the 13th National Parliamentary election and referendum, while he was travelling by rickshaw on Box Culvert Road in Purana Paltan, Dhaka. He was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later at Evercare Hospital.
As his condition deteriorated, Hadi was taken to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15 for advanced treatment. He died there on Thursday night while undergoing treatment. His body was brought back to Bangladesh on Friday and kept at the morgue of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases Hospital. Following his death, the government declared Saturday, December 20, a national day of mourning.
