The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has announced that all programmes and exhibitions will resume from Sunday, December 21, following the end of the national mourning period. The announcement was made in an urgent press release posted on the Academy’s official Facebook page on Saturday, December 20.
In the statement, the Academy said that its earlier decision to suspend all activities from December 19, 2025, was taken in response to the declaration of a national day of mourning by Muhammad Yunus following the death of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi. The suspension, the Academy said, was temporary and linked to the mourning period and the overall situation at the time.
The Academy also expressed concern over reports published by some online news portals and social media pages claiming that its activities had been suspended “indefinitely,” describing such reports as undesirable and regrettable. It clarified that all pre-scheduled programmes and exhibitions will resume regularly from Sunday and requested cooperation from audiences, well-wishers, and journalists.
Earlier, a memorandum signed by Deputy Director (Administration) Purnalaksha Chakma had stated that all programmes and exhibitions were suspended from December 19 until further notice due to national mourning and unavoidable circumstances. The Academy’s latest statement confirms that the suspension has now been formally lifted with the conclusion of the mourning period.
