A 15-year-old school student, Ruman, died while undergoing treatment after being stabbed in Kamrangirchar, Dhaka, in an incident stemming from a senior–junior dispute, police said. He died around 5:00 am on Monday, December 22, at the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital in the capital.

According to police, the stabbing occurred on the evening of December 19, when Saiful Islam (16) attacked Ruman following an argument related to seniority. Ruman, a fifth-grade student at a local school, was critically injured and admitted to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Sub-Inspector Abu Bakkar Siddique of Kamrangirchar Police Station said Ruman’s body was recovered on Monday morning and sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. The accused was arrested on Saturday from the Gendaria area, and a case has been filed in connection with the incident.

Police said the accused has given a confessional statement in court, claiming he stabbed Ruman out of anger because Ruman did not acknowledge him as a “senior.” Ruman’s ancestral home is in Mollarchar village of Jajira upazila in Shariatpur, and he lived with his family in Purba Rasulpur, Kamrangirchar. His father, Jalal Uddin, is a rickshaw puller.
