Police recovered the hanging bodies of a mother and her daughter in Sonatala upazila of Bogura on Friday, raising suspicions around a possible case of domestic violence. The bodies were found in Shicharpura village of Joragachha Union, said Sonatala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kabir Hossain.
The deceased were identified as China Begum (32), wife of Kamrul Islam, and their daughter Khadija Begum, an eighth-grade student of Shicharpura Buljan High School. Kamrul Islam, who worked as an office assistant-cum-night guard at Shicharpura Government Primary School, has been missing since the incident. Police said that apart from his ailing mother, no one else was present at the house.
According to the victim’s father, Tarajul Islam, Kamrul had subjected China Begum to repeated abuse since their marriage 16–17 years ago. He said the couple had separated at one point due to the abuse but later reconciled. Local residents also said the family had been facing severe financial hardship and had been surviving on borrowed money.
OC Kabir Hossain said it was not possible to immediately determine the cause of death and that the matter would become clearer following a thorough investigation. Police said no formal conclusion has yet been reached, and further inquiry is underway.
