A Majar in Thakurgaon town was vandalized under the cover of darkness, triggering tension in the area. The incident took place sometime on Friday night at the Hazrat Baba Shah Satyapir Majar in the Satyapir Bridge area, said Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monir Hossain.
Local residents and devotees discovered the vandalism on Saturday morning when they went to the Majar. As the news spread, hundreds of devotees and followers gathered at the site, expressing anger and demanding that those responsible be identified and punished. Police and locals said devotees have long carried out their religious activities at the Majar peacefully.
According to police and witnesses, unknown individuals entered the Majar at night and vandalized the graves. Doors and windows of the main structure were also broken. Alim Hossain, a devotee, said the Majar predates his lifetime and had never seen such an incident before, calling for exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
Enamul Haque, president of the Hazrat Baba Shah Satyapir Majar committee, said preparations are underway to file a case. He demanded a proper investigation and the arrest of those involved. Members of the upazila administration, army, police, and other law enforcement agencies visited the site after the incident. OC Monir Hossain said no theft had occurred and that the matter is being investigated. After inspecting the scene, Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Khairul Islam said the absence of theft indicated extremist involvement and expressed hope that the culprits would be brought to justice soon.
