The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled Barrister Rumin Farhana, assistant international affairs secretary of its National Executive Committee, for violating party decisions and carrying out organizational activities independently. The decision was announced in a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

The press release stated that Rumin Farhana has been expelled from all party positions, including her primary membership. The action follows her announcement that she would contest the upcoming national parliamentary election as an independent candidate.

The BNP has allocated the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, comprising Sarail and Ashuganj, to its alliance partner Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam for the elections. Maulana Junaid Al Habib, vice-president of Jamiat, has been nominated by the BNP-led alliance for the seat. Rumin Farhana, a former member of parliament from a reserved seat, had sought the BNP nomination for this constituency but did not receive it.

After being denied the nomination, Rumin Farhana announced her intention to contest independently and had earlier indicated that she would resign from the party before purchasing nomination papers. Speaking to the media, she said the party was free to take any action it deemed necessary, adding that she planned to step down from the party respectfully before formally entering the race.
