A 19-year-old housewife, Rifat Jahan Rinky, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Bogura on Tuesday night, raising suspicion after her husband and in-laws went into hiding while taking the home’s CCTV hard drive with them.

The incident occurred around 11:00 pm in the Nungola Dakshin Para area of Sadar Upazila in Bogura. Rinky, daughter of Rashedul Islam of Shahjahanpur Upazila, had been married to Nurunnabi for five years and was the mother of a four-year-old child.

Family members said Rinky was seen playing badminton in the yard earlier that afternoon. Although there were reports of occasional domestic disputes, her death later that night shocked the neighbourhood. Rinky’s sister, Asha Khatun, said she received a missed call from Rinky’s phone earlier in the day but could not reach her afterward. Later, Nurunnabi reportedly called family members claiming Rinky was “possessed,” prompting them to rush to the house, where they found her lifeless body with visible marks on her neck.

Relatives allege evidence tampering. Rinky’s aunt, Ayna Khatun, claimed the husband’s family removed the CCTV hard drive before fleeing to destroy evidence and demanded an impartial investigation. Locals confirmed that neither Nurunnabi nor his family members were present at the house after the incident.

Bogura Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mahfuzur Rahman said police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy. “No clear signs of suicide were found initially. The cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report,” he said, adding that legal action is being prepared as the investigation continues.
