A woman in Jhenaidah has filed a criminal case accusing her former husband of abducting her, raping her, and burning multiple parts of her body. The case was lodged at Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station on Saturday evening, naming the ex-husband, his younger brother, and an unidentified individual as accused. The survivor is currently receiving treatment at the Jhenaidah 250-bed General Hospital.
According to the complaint, the woman was abducted from in front of a restaurant in Jhenaidah town on Saturday evening. She alleged that she was forced into a white microbus, blindfolded, and taken to multiple locations. Based on their voices, she identified her ex-husband Md. Nazmul Khandaker, his brother Shawkat Khandaker, and another man as being present in the vehicle.
The survivor stated that her ex-husband raped her during the ordeal and subjected her to extreme torture by burning various parts of her body with fire. She further alleged that the accused attempted to kill her by throwing her off a bridge over a canal near the restaurant area. She managed to escape and reach the hospital with the help of passersby.
Hospital physician Dr. Rajib Chakraborty said the woman was admitted with multiple round burn injuries, including on her genitals, chest, and other sensitive areas. He described her condition as critical upon arrival and said she is currently undergoing treatment in the gynecology department.
Police said the accused are currently absconding. Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Shamsul Arefin confirmed that the case has been registered and that police have launched raids to arrest those involved.
