Jamaat-e-Islami has accused the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of harassing female party workers, attacking leaders and activists, and spreading rumors during the election campaign. The allegations were made by Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair at a press conference at the party office in Maghbazar, Dhaka.
He said Jamaat would file a formal complaint with the Election Commission and that party leaders would visit the EC. Jamaat presented information alleging beatings and harassment of women in six constituencies, attacks in eleven constituencies, and rumor-spreading in four constituencies over the past four days. Zubair also claimed that the party’s Upazila Secretary in Sreebardi, Sherpur, had been killed, and that no arrests had been made.
According to Jamaat, female campaigners in areas including Dhaka, Jessore, Noakhali, Kushtia, Sitakunda, and Naogaon faced obstruction, verbal abuse, and threats questioning women’s involvement in politics. Specific incidents cited included alleged attacks in Bhola-2 and Palashbari, Gaibandha, where several activists were reported injured.
Zubair further alleged code of conduct violations by BNP candidates, including distribution of money, provocative speeches, and weapons-related incidents in multiple districts. He said misinformation had been spread about killings linked to Jamaat. Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman is scheduled to visit Sherpur and Jamalpur on Sunday.
