The official X (formerly Twitter) account of Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, was temporarily taken over in what the party described as a cyber attack, according to an official statement issued Sunday (February 1).
The statement, released by Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, said the party’s central campaign team confirmed that the Ameer’s account, along with accounts of several senior leaders, had been targeted in a coordinated attack. The party said the attackers briefly gained control of the Ameer’s X account but that internal technical measures allowed them to recover access within a short time and secure other platforms.
During the period of unauthorized access, a post containing remarks derogatory toward women was published from the account and circulated online. Jamaat-e-Islami stated that the content was false, fabricated, and does not represent any statement or position of Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. The party condemned the spread of the post and described it as misleading.
In its statement, Jamaat urged the public, media workers, and social media users to be cautious about unverified content, including fake quotes and misleading information. The party said identity forgery and the spread of distorted material are legally punishable and called on people to rely on official sources and report suspicious content.
Earlier on Saturday night (January 31), the post drew attention on social media due to its offensive language about women. Later, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated from his recovered account that it had been hacked and that necessary action was taken after the issue became known.
