Seema Dutta is contesting the 13th National Election from Dhaka-7 as a candidate of the Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist), also known as the Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist, SPB). Her party’s symbol in the election is a pair of scissors. The Dhaka-7 constituency encompasses Lalbagh, Chawkbazar, Banshal, and parts of Kamrangirchar and Kotwali within the Dhaka South City Corporation.

She is one of ten women nominated by SPB for the national election. Reports from campaign sites indicate that she has been engaging with voters across her constituency, including Tatibazar and Lalbagh areas, participating in on-ground outreach and meetings.

SPB’s published platforms state that the party was active during the July 2024 mass uprising and participated in the second phase of discussions of the Consensus Commission. While SPB offers conditional support for signing the July Charter, its official statements call for rewriting the charter to reflect a broader consensus, to uphold original socialist principles, and to remove provisions the party views as undemocratic.

Seema Dutta’s entry into electoral politics is connected to her family ties; she is the wife of SPB party leader Manash Dutta. Analysts have noted this pattern in Bangladesh’s political landscape, where many women candidates enter formal electoral politics through family or party networks. Her campaign combines SPB’s left-wing agenda with local constituency engagement.
