Israt Sultana Elen Bhutto is contesting the 13th National Election from Jhalokathi-2 as a candidate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). She is one of ten women BNP candidates in the election.
She previously served as a Member of Parliament from Jhalokathi-2, first elected in a 2000 by-election and re-elected in the 2001 general election as a BNP candidate. The constituency, part of Barisal Division, has remained vacant since 2024.
Her late husband, Zulfiker Ali Bhutto, was also a Member of Parliament from the same constituency in the 1980s, representing the Jatiya Party before his death in May 2000. Elen Bhutto’s political involvement continued through BNP after her time in office.
In 2006, Chunnu Mollah, her brother-in-law, filed a case accusing her of involvement in her husband’s death, but there is no public record of prosecution or follow-up resulting in conviction.
Her 2026 campaign in Jhalokathi-2 includes voter outreach and public meetings, as part of BNP’s slate of contestants across the country.
This profile is part of an ongoing documentation series on women contesting the 13th National Election.
