Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Joint Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, said women’s rights would be harmed if Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami came to power. He made the remarks at a BNP election rally in the Kurigram-2 constituency on Monday afternoon at the Central Eidgah ground in Kurigram Sadar.
Rizvi said that under Jamaat’s rule, women would face restrictions in holding positions in administration, courts, politics, and state institutions, which he said would affect their social standing and employment opportunities. Referring to a recent media interview involving the Jamaat Ameer, he said statements limiting women’s eligibility for top leadership roles indicated the party’s position on women’s status.
He also questioned Jamaat’s political commitments, alleging inconsistency in its public positions and warning of a move toward religion-based laws if the party gained power. Rizvi urged voters to consider these issues when casting ballots.
Addressing party politics, he criticized comments made about former BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and said past political alliances should not be forgotten. He called on supporters to remain vigilant and to vote for the BNP’s electoral symbol, the sheaf of paddy, to safeguard democratic rights. Local and central BNP leaders, including the party’s candidate for Kurigram-2, attended the rally.
