The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday raised serious allegations of pre-election irregularities in a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Bhaban in Agargaon.
Speaking after the meeting, BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan said reports were emerging of money being distributed to voters and “special clothes” being prepared for lakhs of women. He also referred to allegations involving ballot papers and seals. He said these matters had been formally brought to the Election Commission’s attention.
Nazrul Islam Khan said such incidents should be addressed before polling day, not after. He questioned why election authorities and law enforcement agencies had not taken visible action despite media reports and prior complaints. He said public confidence could be harmed if preventive steps were not taken.
The BNP said it had instructed its own candidates and agents to avoid any disruption and called on the Election Commission to play its legal and constitutional role to ensure a peaceful, fair, and impartial election.
