A housewife in Hatia, Noakhali has alleged that she was raped following a dispute over voting in the recent election. Police say they have begun an investigation based on reports circulating on social media, although no written complaint has been filed so far. The survivor is currently receiving treatment at Noakhali General Hospital.
According to her account, three men entered her home around 11:00 PM on Friday night. She alleges that her husband was tied up and one of the men raped her while the others guarded the house. She claims the assault was carried out because of her voting choice.
Hospital authorities said the woman first arrived seeking treatment for injuries from a fight and later returned, reporting the alleged rape. Because no formal case has been filed, a forensic examination has not yet been conducted. Medical records note the alleged assault time as 11:00 PM on February 13.
Police officials said that initial inquiries found evidence of two separate clashes in the area but no direct witness testimony confirming the rape. Meanwhile, the BNP activist accused in the incident has denied the allegation, claiming he was admitted to the same hospital at the time for injuries from another dispute. Authorities say further legal action will depend on whether a formal complaint is submitted.
