BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has extended support to Bibi Zohra, a woman from Feni who was reportedly divorced by her husband after voting for the BNP’s “sheaf of paddy” symbol in the 13th national parliamentary election.

A delegation from “Amra BNP Paribar,” led by member secretary Mokchedul Momin Mithun, visited Zohra’s home on Saturday to assess her situation. The team provided financial assistance and assured continued support, including help with the education of her three children. Mithun said the organization would stand by the family on humanitarian grounds and arrange further assistance as needed.

Newly elected Feni-1 MP Rafiqul Alam Majnu and several local BNP leaders were present during the visit. They discussed Zohra’s current circumstances, as she faces uncertainty following the divorce issued by her husband, Ismail Hossain Kausar.

Questions remain over whether the divorce complies with Islamic legal procedures, and the matter is reportedly under review. Local residents have called for state intervention if the divorce is deemed valid, including rehabilitation measures, social safety-net benefits, and financial support for Zohra and her children.
