A Hindu temple in Tarapur Tea Garden in the Pathantula area of Sylhet city was burned in an early-morning arson attack on Sunday, destroying idols, scriptures, and worship materials. The Gauranitai temple, constructed from bamboo and tin, was found partially destroyed around 7:00 AM, with smoke still rising when local residents arrived.
According to local sources, images of Krishna, copies of the Gita, donation money, and ritual items inside the temple were burned to ashes. The temple, established about three years ago, has been regularly used by tea garden workers for worship. The incident has triggered fear among local residents, who are demanding the immediate identification and punishment of those responsible.
Tea garden representatives said it is still unclear who carried out the attack or what the motive was. Temple authorities are preparing to file a general diary (GD). Police visited the site soon after the incident, and BNP leaders also inspected the area later in the morning.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire and identify those involved.
