A 38-year-old woman was killed in Sripur, Gazipur, on Friday afternoon in an incident police say followed a domestic dispute. The deceased, Sharmin Akhter (Ruma), worked in a garment factory and lived in a rented house in the Kewa Channapara area of the upazila.
According to police and local sources, Sharmin had been married to Ratan Mia for about three years. The couple reportedly had ongoing family disputes. On Friday afternoon, an argument between them escalated, and Ratan allegedly attacked Sharmin with a sharp weapon.
Local residents rescued Sharmin in critical condition and took her to the Sripur Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor declared her dead. After the incident, the accused husband left the scene and remains absconding.
Police later recovered the body and sent it to the Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Sripur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Nasir Ahmed said a police operation is ongoing to arrest the accused and legal action will be taken.
